Many generations have worked hard to make Rochester a No. 1 city. It’s been a great community for residents, businesses and visitors for a long time. However, many businesses are closing, and residents are getting more concerned on how they are going to pay their bills and save for their family's futures. Many are also concerned about the level of crime. Many have expressed concerns that we are losing Rochester's uniqueness, and becoming copies of other cities. And we need leaders who understand these circumstances and have experience in providing solutions.
I understand that the current decisions are driving up costs of operation, construction, employment and taxes, which are forcing our grocers, day cares, drug stores, restaurants and contractors to increase the prices you pay so they can afford to stay in business.
I understand that the diversion of your income and savings to taxes negatively impacts your ability to save for your necessities and emergencies. This further impacts the local banks' and credit unions' ability to provide loans needed in the community. This even worse now that interest rates for bond borrowing are at 20-year highs.
I understand that the best way to deal with crime is to deal with it in its early stages before it becomes a habit and a lifestyle. And further, I understand why victims are asking that their voices be heard and believed.
I understand logic, efficiency, advanced planning and working well with others to avoid chaos, cost overruns and legal problems.
I have worked in public service for 30 years; working with budgets, responding to citizen concerns, conducting neighborhood meetings, and developing logical, cost-effective solutions to complex problems, while operating within ordinance and statute limitations. I have worked with homeowners, business owners, developers, consultants, contractors and regulatory agencies. I have done this from both the public sector and the private sector.
And therefore, I respectfully ask for your vote to you represent you and the City of Rochester as the next Council President. As a true non-partisan, I will use my understanding and experience to stabilize Rochester’s opportunities, priorities and affordability.
Thank you,
Dean
